Hormonal Therapy
Female Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?
hormones in your body. They are identical to your body’s own natural
hormone and made from natural plant sources.
Why Not Synthetic Hormones?
Synthetic hormones do not match your body’s natural hormones and decrease the natural production of one’s own body hormones, causing more symptoms. Synthetic hormones are man-made from chemical compounds, which are less effective, and have been known to increase the risk of certain cancers.
What Are Hormones and What Do They Do?
unwanted symptoms. BHRT therapy replaces and fixes the imbalances women face during periods of perimenopause and menopause.
What is Perimenopause and Menopause?
As women approach perimenopause (the years leading up to menopause) and menopause (one year after cessation of one’s menstrual cycle) their ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone. This leads to a host of debilitating symptoms for approximately 75% of women in the United States. Women are usually in their mid 40’s or early 50’s when the transition to menopause begins. Some women can even experience this transition in their late 30s.
What Symptoms Are Associated with Perimenopause and Menopause?
Fluctuations and cessation of hormones can cause an array of disturbing symptoms, which include:
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Hot flashes
- Decreased libido
- Anxiety
- Difficulty with sleep
- Fatigue
- Weight gain
- Vaginal dryness
- Night sweats
- Mood changes
- Forgetfulness
- Joint aches and pain
- Headaches
This is a brief listing of symptoms women may experience during this period in their lives. Women can feel desperate and overwhelmed in seeking answers about the changes and issues occurring in their bodies. We at BCWC are here to listen, understand, and take the necessary approach to treatment.
What Risks Are Associated with Menopause?
Due to the loss of estrogen and progesterone, many biochemical processes take place throughout the body, leading to disease states. Some risks associated with perimenopause/menopause include:
- Bone loss, leading to osteoporosis
- Cardiovascular problems leading to heart attacks and stroke
- Urinary incontinence
- Weight gain
Why I Choose to Treat Bioidentical Hormone Replacement in Women?
This is a personal issue and mission, as I have suffered from debilitating symptoms of perimenopause. I have taken a stance on treating and educating as many women about this yet common, but ignored transition in a woman’s life. Though menopause marks the end of the reproductive years, it can be the beginning of life for so many women living symptom free through this process.

Will Insurance Cover My Treatment?
Many insurance companies see BHRT as elective treatment. They do
not see this treatment as medically necessary. I beg to differ, but have no
control over large healthcare systems and big pharma. As we can see,
the focus is on treating disease after it has already attacked our bodies,
rather than being focused on prevention.
Look closely at your insurance policy. Some insurance providers may
authorize treating hormone replacement but the question is, if it’s
bioidentical or synthetic. Most insurance companies do not cover
bioidentical hormone replacement therapy that are made naturally
through a compounding pharmacy.
Bioidentical hormones are not one-size fits all, unlike synthetic
hormones. These hormones are tailored, customized, and dosed for the
individual patient. This allows medical providers to finely tune the dosage
to each patient’s unique needs. Again, BHRT is prepared by a licensed
compounding pharmacy, made from natural sources that are identical to
the hormones in your body.
Meanwhile, don’t allow the health insurance industry’s position on BHRT
to influence your decision in choosing a safer, more efficient way to
restore balance in your body in a natural way.
